La presente obra nace con la pretensión de ofrecer un estudio genérico de las principales relaciones que median entre la Informática y el Derecho, sin renunciar, en algunas ocasiones, a realizar una mayor profundización en el análisis. Se abordarán cuestiones relacionadas con Internet, la Sociedad de la Información, el comercio electrónico, la contratación desde Internet, las firmas electrónicas, los documentos electrónicos y su valor probatorio, los códigos deontológicos o de conducta, la protección de los datos personales, la protección jurídica del software y otras creaciones electrónicas, y la criminalidad informática y los principales tipos delictivos en este ámbito. Resulta evidente que el entorno informático evoluciona mucho más rápido que el jurídico, desborda el ámbito territorial estatal y alcanza una neta vocación internacional y multidisciplinar. Por estos motivos, las relaciones que median entre el Derecho y la Informática han sido estudiadas teniendo presentes, además de las normas nacionales, la regulación europea e internacional al uso; asimismo, se han abordado cuestiones propias del derecho público, del derecho privado o del ámbito de la ética jurídica. Juan Carlos Menéndez Mato es Licenciado y Doctor en Derecho por la Universidad de Oviedo y Licenciado en Ciencias Políticas por la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), formación completada en la Universidad de Pisa (Dottore in Giurisprudenza) y en la Universidad Católica de Lovaina (Máster en Derecho internacional y europeo). En la actualidad es Profesor Titular de Universidad de Derecho civil en la UNED, y entre sus líneas de investigación destacan la formación de contratos, la oferta contractual, la contratación desde Internet o los derechos sucesorios legitimarios. Mª Eugenia Gayo Santa Cecilia cursó sus estudios de Derecho en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, tras los que se diplomó con el Número Uno de la Promoción en la Escuela de Práctica Jurídica de dicha Universidad. En la actualidad es Profesora Titular E.U. en el Departamento de Filosofía Jurídica de la Facultad de Derecho de la UNED. En dicha Universidad ha desempeñado los cargos de Vicedecana de la Facultad de Derecho, Vicesecretaria General de la Universidad y Directora del Departamento de Filosofía Juridica. Sus líneas de investigación se desarrollan fundamentalmente en el ámbito de la Teoría del Derecho, las relaciones entre Derecho e Informática, las repercusiones de la globalización sobre los Derechos Humanos o las nuevas metodologías de aprendizaje del Derecho.
