La obra se estructura en torno a doce Capítulos que responden a una lógica interna en el régimen de los no nacionales en España: -En primer lugar, se delimita la situación de extranjería, identificando al extranjero y discriminando las diferentes realidades de extranjería, propiamente dicha y de la ciudadanía de la UE. En ese contexto, se sitúa también un análisis de los supuestos de atribución, consolidación y conservación de la nacionalidad española que excluyen o previenen situaciones de extranjería. A este tratamiento responden los dos primeros Capítulos de la obra. -El Capítulo III contiene el régimen general de entrada y salida de los extranjeros en España. La original sistematización de la obra en este punto es que logra ofrecer una comparativa de los ciudadanos europeos y de los nacionales de terceros países, integrando además el sistema Schengen. -Los Capítulos IV a VII se sistematizan en torno al régimen jurídico de los extranjeros en función del objeto de su entrada en España. El nexo común de esos Capítulos es el análisis de las condiciones para la entrada y permanencia regular en nuestro territorio en función de una finalidad meramente turística, no lucrativa, familiar o laboral. -El Capítulo VIII, en contraposición, expone el tratamiento jurídico que se dispensa a los extranjeros que hayan entrado o permanecido de manera irregular en nuestro territorio, presentando las diferentes vías de regularización previstas en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico. -El Capítulo IX aborda el régimen de los residentes permanentes o de larga duración en España, como situación de máxima integración de los extranjeros (antes de la adquisición de la nacionalidad) después de una prolongada vinculación con nuestro territorio. -El Capítulo X incorpora el estudio sobre el estatuto jurídico de los extranjeros en España, siguiendo también el planteamiento paralelo que aparece en toda la obra entre el régimen europeo y el régimen de extranjería. -El Capítulo XI contiene las garantías jurídicas de los extranjeros y el régimen sancionador. En relación con las primeras, se exponen las especialidades de los procedimientos administrativos de extranjería y la situación de los CIES. Por su parte, el régimen sancionador se presenta de manera novedosa ordenando las infracciones por vinculación entre sí. -El Capítulo XII, y último, aborda el tema de la finalización de la situación de extranjería por el acceso a la condición de nacional. Se analiza la adquisición de la nacionalidad española por opción y por naturalización, fundamentalmente, esta ultima a través de la residencia los extranjeros en España.
