Es ya usual plantear la historia de la filosofía como historia de la recepción de las obras filosóficas, de sus interpretaciones y reinterpretaciones hasta llegar a nosotros, de tal forma que se ponga de manifiesto cómo cada obra, actuando sobre el horizonte de pensamiento de una determinada época, le afecta y contribuye a su transformación. Los clásicos son nuestros interlocutores permanentes que siempre tienen algo que decirnos ante las nuevas preguntas que les dirigimos desde nuestro horizonte actual. La finalidad de la presente obra es ofrecer en panorama del desarrollo filosófico de la Antigüedad y la Edad Media, proporcionando al respecto la información que permita alzanzar una visión global de la filosofía enmarcada en la historia integral de la humanidad. Se complementa esta visión de conjunto con la inclusión de textos de los filósofos mismos para ejercitarse en la reproduccion intelectual del movimiento del pensamiento que la obra encierra y su interpretación crítica. Diego Sánchez Meca es Catedrático de Filosofía Contemporánea en la UNED. Antes ha sido profesor de las Universidades de Murcia y de California (Berkeley). Desde hace algunos años centra su tarea investigadora en el estudio de la formación, transformaciones, crisis y límites de los proyectos modernos europeos de cultura (que se desarrollan históricamente, sobre todo, a partir de la confrontación Ilustración-Romanticismo), desde el punto de vista filosófico, literario e histórico-sociológico. Entre sus últimas publicaciones destacan: Modernidad y romanticismo: para una genealogía de la actualidad, Madrid, Tecnos, 2013, Historia de la filosofía moderna y contemporánea, Madrid, Dykinson, 2010, Nietzsche. La experiencia dionisíaca del mundo (Tecnos, 4ª ed. 2009), El nihilismo (Síntesis, 2004) Martin Buber (Herder, 2ª ed. 2000), La Historia de la Filosofía como Hermenéutica (UNED, 3ª ed. 2003), Teoría del Conocimiento (Dykinson, 2ª ed. 2012). En la actualidad dirige la edición de las Obras Completas de Nietzsche, publicada por la Editorial Tecnos, de la que han aparecido ya los cuatro volúmenes de Fragmentos Póstumos, el volumen correspondiente a los Escritos de juventud (2012) y el correspondiente a los Escritos filológicos (2013).
