La obra muestra y explica las distintas estructuras anatómicas y todas las funciones corporales, así como la regulación homeostática. Los capítulos de sistemas corporales se han dividido en capítulos separados para ayudar al estudiante en su aprendizaje. Con más de 1.400 excelentes imágenes a todo color que explican y hacen fáciles los conceptos difíciles. Asimismo, se incorporan tablas adicionales que ayudan a los estudiantes a organizar visualmente los conceptos más importantes y complementan el diseño mejorado. Cuenta con numerosas ayudas para el aprendizaje como resumen del capítulo, ilustraciones con códigos de color, «El ciclo de la vida» (describe los principales cambios que se suceden a lo largo de la vida de una persona), «Enfoque global» (explica las interacciones entre el sistema que se expone en un capítulo concreto y el cuerpo como un todo), entre otras.
