La Summa Theologiae no sólo representa la cumbre de la ciencia teológica tal como se cultivaba en la universidad medieval, sino que es también obra cimera del pensamiento cristiano de todos los tiempos. Por esta razón, la fuerza y la vitalidad de la Summa Theologiae son imperecederas y es inexcusable su lectura para quien desee conocer la teología católica. Este segundo volumen alberga la Parte I-II de la Summa Theologiae. Junto con la Parte II-II, a la que van dedicados los volúmenes III y IV, abarca la teología moral, es decir, «el movimiento de la criatura racional hacia Dios». Es, sin duda, la sección más rica y original de la Suma. El presente volumen va precedido de una documentada exposición sobre las características, fuentes, novedad y estructura de esta Parte. Este trabajo, al igual que las ilustrativas introducciones a los tratados y las abundantes notas explicativas de los pasajes difíciles, han sido redactados por profesores dominicos en centros de estudio en España. La traducción y las referencias a las fuentes explícitas e implícitas han sido preparadas sobre el texto de la edición crítica Leonina.
