El Manual para el tratamiento cognitivo-conductual de los trastornos psicológicos, vol. 1: Trastornos por ansiedad, sexuales, afectivos y psicóticos comprende 23 capítulos, fundamentalmente prácticos, que presentan directrices y pautas para el tratamiento cognitivo-conductual de numerosos trastornos, englobados bajo las áreas de trastornos por ansiedad, sexuales, somatoformes, disociativos, de control de impulsos, del estado de ánimo y psicóticos. Muchos de los capítulos incluyen un protocolo de tratamiento, donde se describe un programa concreto de intervención para el trastorno psicológico o psiquiátrico correspondiente. Aparte de la presentación de programas de tratamiento para trastornos clásicos dentro de la psicología cognitivo-conductual, como las fobias, el trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo, los trastornos sexuales, la depresión o la esquizofrenia, se incluyen también pautas de intervención para problemas escasamente representados en esta orientación hasta hace poco, como son la hipocondría, el trastorno dismórfico corporal, el trastorno disociativo de identidad, el juego patológico, la tricotilomanía, los trastornos bipolares o las demencias. El libro pretende ser esencialmente aplicado y ofrecer al profesional de la salud unas primeras orientaciones a la hora de abordar diversos trastornos psicológicos o psiquiátricos. Intervienen en este primer volumen más de 40 especialistas nacionales y extranjeros. Un segundo volumen, de próxima aparición, presentará más programas de tratamiento para otros trastornos no incluidos en este texto. El presente Manual está pensado tanto para los clínicos (psicólogos y psiquiatras) que ejercen su profesión como para los alumnos de los últimos años de la carrera de Psicología y para estudiantes de Psiquiatría. Vicente E. Caballo es doctor en Psicología por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y, en la actualidad, profesor de Psicopatología y Terapia de Conducta en la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Granada. Asimismo, es director del Manual de técnicas de terapia y modificación de conducta (1991), del Manual de psicopatología y trastornos psiquiátricos (2 vols.) (1995/1996) y autor del Manual de evaluación y entrenamiento de las habilidades sociales (1993), todos ellos en la editorial Siglo XXI. Es fundador y director de la revista Psicología Conductual y sus intereses actuales se centran en las técnicas de terapia de conducta, las relaciones interpersonales y los trastornos de la personalidad.
