Description
History of Israel A Monumental work that transcends time to understand the Historical and Theological origins of ancient Israel History of Israel, written by Georg Heinrich August von Ewald, offers a profound and critical exploration of the Hebrew people and their evolution from their earliest stages to more advanced biblical times. With a rigorous philological and literary approach, Ewald examines the sources that make up the Old Testament, unraveling the traditions and authors who shaped its sacred texts. Why is this an essential work? A definitive eight-volume work providing a detailed analysis of the Old Testament, enabling a deeper and more informed reading. Applies an innovative philological approach, tracing the evolution of Israelite religious and political thought. Explores the origins of biblical texts in ancient Hebrew, identifying their diverse traditions and authors. Introduces the theory of the “prophetic narrators” and the “author of the Book of Origins”, both of which are foundational in modern Pentateuch studies. Relates the history of Israel to the political and cultural context of civilizations such as Babylon and Assyria, enriching the analysis with contemporary archaeological discoveries. Bridges 19th-century scholarship with contemporary debates on the Bible, maintaining its academic relevance through history, textual criticism, and theology.
