The book traces the history, growth and evolution of Churches and provides valuable insights into various architectural designs and construction details. Even when it deals with facts common to all treatises on medieval architecture, a great deal of freshness, originality and independence of treatment is achieved. Divided into two volumes, the work is lavishly illustrated. Over 1400 illustrations (photographs and line- drawings) accompany the text. The set is thus an essential reference tool and will be of immense use to anyone interested in medieval architecture.
