Die politische Landkarte der Balkanhalbinsel hat sich im 20. und zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts wiederholt verändert. Staaten wurden gegründet und aufgelöst, und neue entstanden. Während dieser ganzen Zeit haben zwei Themen - das albanische und das mazedonische - eine Schlüsselrolle gespielt. Während ersteres noch immer auf der Tagesordnung der europäischen Politik steht, ist letzteres Anfang der 2020er Jahre fast von ihr verschwunden. Der Autor zeichnet die historischen Wurzeln beider Themen nach, analysiert die charakteristischen Merkmale des sozialistischen Aufbaus und des Übergangs zu marktwirtschaftlichen Verhältnissen in Albanien und Nordmazedonien und hebt den projektkonstruktiven Charakter dieser Staaten hervor, die durch supranationales Management im Prozess der Globalisierung - hier im weitesten Sinne verstanden - geschaffen wurden. Neben der Betrachtung allgemeiner politischer Prozesse wird den wichtigsten Trends und Problemen der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet. Für beide Länder wurden ökonometrische Analysen hauptsächlich auf der Grundlage des endogenen Wachstumsmodells vom Caldorov-Typ mit einem eingebetteten Mechanismus des technischen Fortschritts durchgeführt, der sowohl das Sach- als auch das Humankapital und die Zeit als Ereignisraum kreativer wirtschaftlicher Aktivität berücksichtigt.
