La présente étude est en cours depuis 1990-1991 au Centre de recherche agricole de l'Université d'agriculture et de technologie G. B. Pant, à Pantnagar, U.S.Nagar (Uttaranchal), afin d'étudier les effets à long terme de l'utilisation d'herbicides dans le système riz-blé. Les traitements consistaient en des combinaisons de butachlore à 1,5 kg ha-1, de désherbage manuel (30 et 60 jours après la transplantation) et de contrôle des mauvaises herbes dans le riz, et chaque traitement de la saison kharif était suivi d'isoproturon à 1,0 kg ha-1, de deux désherbages manuels (30 et 60 jours après le semis) et d'un contrôle des mauvaises herbes dans le blé. L'expérience a été conçue selon un plan en blocs aléatoires, avec neuf traitements et trois répétitions. Le sol de la parcelle expérimentale était de texture limono-sableuse, moyennement riche en carbone organique, pauvre en azote disponible et moyennement riche en phosphore et potassium disponibles, avec une réaction neutre. Les différentes études menées pendant les saisons kharif et rabi de 2003-2004 et 2004-2005 sont présentées ici.
