Przez długi czas badacze zajmujący się migracją skupiali swoją uwagę na migrantach znajdujących się w marginalnej sytuacji lub, odwrotnie, na tych, których zaliczano do międzynarodowej „elity”. Dlatego też media nie były dotychczas klasycznym obszarem zainteresowań badaczy migracji. Okazuje się jednak, że migranci zdobywają pozycję zawodową również w tej dziedzinie: badanie opiera się na dziewiętnastu wywiadach biograficznych z pracownikami stacji radiowej FM4, która jest częścią Austriackiego Radia Publicznego (ORF). Respondenci sami są migrantami lub mają co najmniej jednego rodzica, który jest migrantem. Badanie ilustruje rolę, jaką pochodzenie migracyjne odegrało w dzieciństwie i młodości pracowników radia oraz gdzie stanowi ono pozytywny zasób. Pokazuje również, w jakich obszarach nadal istnieją nierówności. Wyniki wskazują również na interesujące rozbieżności: na przykład fakt, że własne pochodzenie migracyjne jest postrzegane jako cenny zasób, ale jednocześnie może istnieć dystans do określenia „migrant”. Wynika to między innymi z faktu, że w dyskursie publicznym migracja kojarzy się przede wszystkim z problemami.
