Description
As mediators of the immune response, cytokines are essential for the human organism, which is in constant conflict with extra- and intracellular pathogens. The immune system is subject to numerous regulatory mechanisms which, if not functioning properly, can lead to serious diseases. As a member of the interleukin 12 (IL-12) family, interleukin 23 (IL-23) is an important molecule for the regulation of T cells and is associated with the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The IL-23 receptor complex belongs to the group of receptors with associated tyrosine kinase and is composed of the subunits IL-23R and IL-12Rβ1. In this work, the author Dr. Tobias Klöcker characterizes the part of IL-12Rβ1 that is crucial for signal transduction using deletion and mutation variants in the cell model. Decisive approaches for the interaction with drugs to combat autoimmune diseases can be provided on the basis of the data in this book.
