Este estudo preenche uma lacuna importante na conceção sísmica, analisando a localização óptima das paredes, o rácio ideal parede/pavimento e a sua relação com a altura do edifício através de análises estáticas e dinâmicas não lineares. Adopta uma abordagem baseada no desempenho para melhorar a resistência sísmica das estruturas. Os resultados mostram que o aumento do rácio da alma melhora a rigidez e reduz os deslocamentos entre pisos. Por exemplo, recomenda-se um rácio de 1,0% para um edifício de 7 pisos, em comparação com 1,5% para um edifício de 14 pisos. No entanto, ultrapassar estes limites torna-se antieconómico. O estudo revela igualmente que a concentração dos véus no centro da estrutura, nomeadamente sob a forma de configurações completas (U, L, Box), melhora o desempenho, enquanto que os véus parciais podem provocar a deterioração de elementos como as vigas curtas. Estas conclusões sublinham a importância das análises não lineares na otimização do projeto sismo-resistente.
