The present manuscript, a doctoral thesis presented at the University of Malaga, Spain, aims to characterize a type of tourism proposed by the Public University, which is not limited, as is generally the case in practice, to the simple contemplation of natural or cultural assets. What it aspires to, in opposition to this idea, is the effective interaction of ecotourists with these goods through actions that involve knowledge. We are talking about a model of locally based ecotourism, which involves the production and socialization of scientific and popular knowledge, with the participation of public universities and related institutions.
