L'objet de cet ouvrage est de donner aux lecteurs la clé permettant de comprendre la réalité des échanges entre les pays d'Afrique de l'Ouest engagés dans le processus de régionalisation depuis 1975. L'analyse prend appui sur les développements récents des théories économiques (déficiences factorielles et institutionnelles, coûts de transaction) et des faits stylisés relatifs aux flux commerciaux et aux capacités d'offre à l'exportation et à l'importation. L'exposé a montré que le commerce international n'est pas une source fiable de financement du développement des pays ouest-africains qui exportent des produits à l'état brut. Les économies divergentes de ces Etats restent encore piégées dans leur état de sous-développement. Les deux défis majeurs d'ouverture commerciale sont les APE et la ZLECAf. Ces thématiques ont été traitées de façon dépassionnée pour décoder les idées reçues. Leur examen a mis en évidence les avantages qui sont inférieurs aux coûts. Enfin, les auteurs ont exploré des pistes de solution en émettant de recommandations de politiques commerciales visant à créer les conditions de l'émergence d'un commerce croisé en Afrique de l'Ouest.
