Die biologische Aktivität eines Tumors wird durch ein Gleichgewicht zwischen proliferativer und apoptotischer Aktivität seiner neoplastischen Zellen bestimmt. Eine gleichzeitige Bewertung der proliferativen und apoptotischen Aktivitäten kann bei der Beurteilung des pathomorphologischen Verhaltens eines Tumors von großer Hilfe sein. Dieses Buch befasst sich mit zwei Methoden zur Identifizierung neoplastischer Zellen in verschiedenen Phasen des Zellzyklus, zum einen durch die Verwendung von AgNoR-Punkten und Nicht-AgNOR-Punkten in Kernen in histologischen Schnitten nach AgNOR-Färbung und zum anderen durch die Identifizierung von Zellen in ruhendem oder proliferativem Zustand sowie die Identifizierung nekrotischer/apoptotischer Zellen in formalinfixierten Gewebeschnitten nach modifizierter AO-Färbetechnik bei NMU-induzierten Tumoren bei Ratten. Sie ist von immenser Bedeutung für prognostische, diagnostische und therapeutische Entscheidungen bei Tumoren. Diese Protokolle haben das Potenzial, sich zu einem Test zu entwickeln, der bei der Auswahl des am besten geeigneten Chemotherapeutikums gegen einen bestimmten Tumor hilft.
