Le résultat a été qu'au lieu que le travail de l'historien soit similaire à celui du juge, qui vérifie toutes les preuves avant d'attribuer le bien et le mal, la vogue de notre époque a marginalisé le fait et la vérité, et attribué au récit relatif de chaque partie égale validité. Ce volume tente, au moins, d'équilibrer le tableau en présentant l'histoire tout en séparant les événements réels, même lorsqu'ils sont représentés de manière imaginative, des récits imaginaires et parfois fabriqués de manière démonstrative qui n'ont aucun rapport avec le monde réel. Pourtant, aucune objectivité ne peut être revendiquée, car seuls les objets inanimés n'ont aucun sentiment ni aucun bagage émotionnel ou culturel. Mais au moins un effort est fait pour répondre aux sensibilités et aux convictions des deux parties.
