Description

Natural gums are economical and easily available. Gums have been wildly used as tablet binders, emulgents and thickeners, in cosmetics and suspensions, as film-forming agents and transitional colloids. The various polysaccharides used in drug delivery applications are cellulose ethers, xanthan gum, locust bean gum, and guar gum. Another natural gum Tamarind kernel gum obtained from the seed kernel of Tamarindus indica, possesses properties like less density, broad pH tolerance, non-carcinogenicity, mucoadhesive nature, biocompatibility. Therefore, it can be used as a natural floating polymer in floating systems.
