Description
La technologie CAD/CAM a été introduite en dentisterie en 1989 par Mormann & Brandestinni en Allemagne et aujourd'hui, elle est largement utilisée dans toutes les branches de la prosthodontie. Grâce à la technologie CAD/CAM, divers types de restaurations et de prothèses dentaires peuvent être conçus et usinés avec exactitude et précision. Les systèmes CAD/CAM Chairside ont évolué grâce à une série de logiciels et de matériel qui offrent un programme de conception en trois dimensions (3-D) et peuvent fabriquer des incrustations, des onlays, des facettes, des couronnes, ainsi que des ponts à trois éléments et piliers implantaires personnalisés. Grâce aux dernières améliorations du logiciel, il est possible de produire un ajustement marginal plus cliniquement acceptable des restaurations usinées. Le processus de conception et de fabrication implique la numérisation optique et la numérisation des matrices créées à partir de l'empreinte principale des dents/noyaux préparés, de sorte que les dimensions des marges puissent être dupliquées avec précision. Les images numérisées en 3 dimensions des matrices sont ensuite utilisées pour concevoir le sous-structure, à l'aide d'un logiciel informatique. L'unité CAO est reliée à un centre de FAO robotisé qui crée une restauration selon les spécifications de conception.
