Dieses Buch befasst sich mit einem der partizipativen Ansätze zur Erreichung der Millenniumsentwicklungsziele, nämlich dem Millennium Villages Project (MVP), das vom Entwicklungsprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (UNDP), dem Earth Institute der Columbia University in den Vereinigten Staaten und dem Millennium Promise in Partnerschaft mit anderen relevanten Entwicklungsakteuren, einschließlich der Bevölkerung des Pampaida Villages Cluster in der Ikara Local Government Area (LGA) des nigerianischen Bundesstaates Kaduna, initiiert wurde. Generell wurde versucht zu verstehen, wie sich die Wahrnehmung des UNDP durch die Begünstigten auf ihre Teilnahme an der MVP auswirkt. Dies trägt zu einem besseren Verständnis der Bedeutung der Wahrnehmungen der Begünstigten und der Frage bei, wie ihr Verhalten in Entwicklungsprojekten gezielt gesteuert werden kann und trägt somit zu einer wachsenden Zahl von Berichten über partizipative Entwicklung bei. Auf diese Weise können wir auch die Schwächen der Theorie der partizipativen Entwicklung der Gemeinschaften verbessern und sie zu einem brauchbaren theoretischen Analyserahmen für Entwicklungsstudien machen.
