Description

Udayagiri liegt 96 km von Nellore entfernt. Früher war die Stadt als Udayagiripuram bekannt. In der Stadt gibt es Wälder, Masjiden und Tempel. Die Festungen wurden von "Langula Gajapathy" aus der Gajapathy-Dynastie erbaut. Danach kam die Stadt unter die Herrschaft von Krishna Devaraya, während dessen Zeit es 12 solcher Festungen gab. Dann kam es unter die Herrschaft der Golconda Nawabs, als Mir.Kankana Nawab der Herrscher wurde. Danach regierte Hakmaran dieses Fort. Der Nawab ernannte Venkata Rao zum Herrscher dieses Udayagiri Durgam, der später entthront wurde, weil er mit der Zahlung von Jahresgebühren in Verzug war. Bis 1839 regierten die Nawabs dieses Fort, als die Briten es übernahmen. Der Durgam im Venkatagiri-Gebirge und der Penchalakona sind mit einer Höhe von über 1026 Metern bzw. 914 Metern über dem mittleren Meeresspiegel die bekanntesten. Völlig losgelöst von diesem Gebirgszug ist der Udayagiri Durgam im Udayagiri-Gebirgszug, ein isolierter Hügel mit einer Höhe von 1033 Metern, der ein stummer Zeuge des Sturzes vieler Kaiser ist. Von der Spitze des Hügels bis zu seiner Basis befindet sich eine tiefe Längsspalte.
