La germination des graines de KFS4 était plus élevée que celle de Speedfeed. Dans les expériences de terrain, deux variétés de sorgho fourrager ont été cultivées dans l'abri contre la pluie pendant 2 ans sous des niveaux de salinité de 0, 5, 10, 15 dS m-1 et irriguées lorsque le potentiel en eau des feuilles a atteint -1, -1,5 et -2 MPa: L'augmentation des concentrations de sel et le stress hydrique ont provoqué le rabougrissement des plants de sorgho fourrager. L'irrigation peut être intensifiée sous salinité pour atténuer les effets sur la croissance des plantes. Le niveau de salinité critique des cultivars KFS4 et Speedfeed était de 15 dS m-1 10 dS m-1, respectivement. Dans des conditions non salines et avec limitation d'eau, le sorgho fourrager peut être arrosé rarement (-2MPa) pour obtenir une WUE élevée. D'autre part, les effets suggèrent que, pour économiser l'eau, l'irrigation des sorghos fourragers peut être retardée d'environ deux semaines jusqu'à ce que le potentiel en eau des feuilles atteigne -1,5 Mpa.
