Description

Show jumping is a competition in overcoming obstacles (from 6 to 18), held on the show jumping field. Competitive jumping was first held in Belgium in the mid-nineteenth century, then in France and Italy. In Russia the first show jumping was organized in 1889. Depending on the number of obstacles and their height show jumping is divided into easy, medium, hard and highest. The relevance of jumping competitions for the cavalry and the increasing interest of fans of equestrian sport brought show jumping quickly into the sphere of international sports life. Nevertheless, show jumping is the youngest type of equestrian sport. It is barely a hundred and fifty years old. But, despite such a "young" age, it has won wide popularity among equestrians and spectators from the first days of its inception, becoming the most popular kind of equestrian sport. This book gives an overview of the historical state of show jumping in Russia and in the world and also presents the main features of show jumping coverage in Equestrian World magazine.
