Anaplasma und Ehrlichia sp. (AEs) verursachen erhebliche wirtschaftliche Verluste in der Viehwirtschaft in Uganda. Trotz der bekannten Einschränkung der Viehproduktion durch diese von Zecken übertragenen Parasiten wurde das Ausmaß dieses Problems bisher nicht umfassend untersucht und/oder festgestellt. In diesem Buch präsentieren wir eine systematische Darstellung der Prävalenz von AEs bei Rindern aus dem Bezirk Kashaari-Mbarara (Uganda) und einen eingehenden Vergleich der Prävalenz dieser durch Zecken übertragenen Parasiten in verschiedenen Rinderrassen, Altersgruppen, Herkunftsgebieten und Haltungssystemen. Um die verschiedenen Anaplasma- und Ehrlichia-Spezies bei Rindern zu bestimmen, verwendeten wir ein einzelnes Primerpaar, um ein 492-498bp-Fragment des 16SRNA-Gens zu amplifizieren, das die für beide AEs konservierte V1-Region überspannt, und ließen die PCR-Produkte mit AE-spezifischen Oligonukleotiden hybridisieren. Ein logistisches Regressionsmodell, das über die oben genannten Faktoren angepasst und zur Bestimmung von Prädiktoren für die Infektion mit AEs verwendet wurde, wird hier vorgestellt. Diese Informationen wurden generiert und hier vorgestellt, weil wir ständig Informationen benötigen, die für zukünftige Strategien zur Bekämpfung von durch Zecken übertragenen Krankheiten benötigt werden, insbesondere für die Verwendung multivalenter Impfstoffe.
