Néanmoins, elle est confrontée à différents défis structurels et techniques, notamment le risque de stratégies d'exportation agressives et de pratiques commerciales déloyales, qui peuvent anéantir une partie substantielle des gains d'intégration.Cela pourrait compromettre les plans d'intégration africains et les industries largement naissantes en Afrique, d'autant plus que de nombreux pays africains ne disposent pas des compétences techniques, des capacités institutionnelles et du cadre juridique suffisants pour faire face aux pratiques commerciales déloyales de manière efficace et effective et pour répondre aux situations qui peuvent nécessiter l'application d'outils d'urgence pour mieux s'adapter aux défis économiques.En dehors de l'Égypte, le Maroc, la Tunisie, l'Afrique du Sud et la Zambie, les instruments nationaux de défense commerciale (IDC) ne sont pas bien développés.
