Первый вариант этой книги был написан в 1991 году по заказу одного из российских издательств. Никакого Интернета в нашей стране тогда практически не было. Не было и популярной справочной литературы о западных кинематографистах. Вот почему, перерывая все доступные мне в ту пору источники, я подготовил многостраничные фильмографии по каждой из персоналий. В издательстве мою книгу приняли на «ура», но наступил 1992 год, и «печатники» не выдержали гиперинфляции и разорились… В середине 1990-х книгой заинтересовалось еще один издательский дом, и был подготовлен дополненный и расширенный вариант книги. Но… публикация опять зависла в воздухе… В итоге перед читателями своего рода «записки из прошлого века». Я не стал ничего изменять и дополнять в своих текстах 1990-х (если не считать того, что они теперь представлены без фильмографий). Большая часть из них была опубликована в московских журналах «Экран», «Видео-Асс экспресс», «Видео-Асс Premiere», «Видео магазин» (выходили такие издания в прошлом столетии), «Про кино», в разного рода газетах, на интернетных сайтах.
