En el ensayo Estudio sobre los problemas socioambientales debidos a la industria extractiva en África: el caso de la RDC, Lucien Antoine Zang Mengue analiza la situación extremadamente compleja que África en su totalidad, y la República Democrática del Congo en particular, está viviendo debido a una gestión irracional de los recursos minerales. Si consideramos que África es el continente más pobre a nivel mundial y que al mismo tiempo posee un patrimonio mineral de inestimable valor para la industria moderna, es evidente que existen unos factores históricos y sociopolíticos que impiden aprovechar estos recursos de la manera apropiada. En este sentido, el caso que más destaca es el de la RDC, que está afrontando problemas importantes debidos a la explotación incontrolada de la minería, tanto a nivel de medio ambiente, como en el plano social y político. En este trabajo, Lucien Zang analiza con precisión y sentido crítico todos y cada uno de estos aspectos, proporcionando también ideas de mejora y casos de éxito para aportar soluciones concretas.
