La producción de Hidrógeno rompiendo la molécula del agua con energía solar es posible si al agua se le añade un polvo con propiedades fotocatalíticas específicas. El agua, al ser traslúcida, no puede ser disociada directamente con energía solar, necesita de algo que capture y canalice esa energía. El uso de fotocatalizadores es un método indirecto que ha demostrado eficacia en esta tarea y su éxito es determinado por las propiedades del semiconductor. Diseñar la ubicación de las bandas de valencia y de conducción asi como el espacio que las separa es crucial. Al lograr la síntesis de un catalizador capaz de capturar la energía solar y transmitirla a romper los enlaces del agua provoca que, con energía solar gratuita, podamos convertir agua sucia y contaminada en el energético primario más poderoso en el universo y libre de emisiones contaminantes. Éste libro analiza y explica a profundidad la metodología de síntesis, las características fisicoquímicas y la actividad del Sulfuro de Cadmio (CdS) parcialmente contaminado con Zinc (ZnS). Demuestra cómo producir un “polvo” capaz de convertir el agua en combustible si se le irradia con luz solar.
