Description
El riesgo de padecer infecciones cruzadas por la variedad de patógenos es inherente a toda actividad realizada en el área de salud, lo cual incluye la atención odontológica, para minimizar este riesgo se utiliza barreras de protección, tales como guantes de látex. Objetivo: evaluar la integridad de los guantes de látex estériles luego de procedimientos quirúrgicos orales realizados en el quirófano de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Central del Ecuador. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal en una población formada por 194 guantes usados en 97 cirugías orales. Mediante la prueba de difusión de agua para guantes médicos de un solo uso, descrita en la Norma Europea 455-1; se evaluó la integridad de los guantes así como sus factores asociados. Resultados: Los datos registrados en la ficha de recolección de datos fueron analizados a través de la prueba de chi cuadrado de Pearson con intervalos de confianza al 95% y un margen de error del 5%. Los resultados indicaron que de 194 guantes quirúrgicos, 29 (15%) de ellos presentaron 36 perforaciones.
