Common medical emergencies encountered in children on dental chair are foreign body obstruction, syncope, asthma, seizure, anaphylaxis, anesthesia or sedation overdose. The American Dental Association's Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct states that "dentist shall be obliged to make reasonable arrangements for the care of their patients". Hence the pediatric dentist is obligated to have the necessary equipment, drug and knowledge to provide immediate and proper emergency therapy, when any medical emergency arise in the dental clinic.
