In this book, an attempt is made to study and analyze various laws of maintenance and their efficacy. The Law as enshrined in the statutes and the practice of the Courts to interpret and implement these provisions keeping in view the changing trends of the society. Over the years certain amendments have been incorporated in the existing law so as to keep pace with the time and needs of the society. The Legislature and the Courts are sensitive towards the issue of maintenance keeping in view that if women and children are left vagrant and drifter, it would add to evils in the society. This book is written with the objective of compiling and comparing all the existing provisions of the law on maintenance and to trace out the lacunae in the statutory provisions and enlist the obstacles hindering the smooth enforcement of the law. Also to study the judicial trend on the subject and to put forth valuable suggestions and juristic opinions for strengthening the law on maintenance and thereby lessening the agony of destitute seeking maintenance allowance.
