En este trabajo, Juan Francisco Sanjuán Benito, nos presenta una somera semblanza del cardenal Cisneros, describiéndonos su imagen desde diferentes ángulos de la vida del cardenal. Comienza en sus humildes orígenes en Torrelaguna (Madrid), pasando por su azarosa y dilatada vida hasta sus últimos suspiros en la villa de Roa (Burgos). Durante los siglos XV y XVI era muy difícil el ascenso social en España, Si nacías lacayo, lacayo morías, pero Cisneros rompió todos los parapetos que existían en aquella sociedad para mantenerte sujeto a la clase en la que habías nacido, alcanzando la cabeza de los dos estamentos más importantes de la España de entonces, el sitial arzobispal de Toledo con la primacía de España y capelo cardenalicio; y el cargo de regente del reino en dos ocasiones, la primera tras la muerte de Felipe I de Castilla hasta el regreso de Fernando el Católico de Nápoles, y el segundo tras la muerte de Fernando el Católico hasta la llegada a España del Carlos I.
