El presente trabajo pretende abordar, por una parte, la noción de educación como “ayudar a crecer”, explicada desde la aportación que Leonardo Polo realiza con su Antropología trascendental. El autor nos hablará de una distinción radical, pero Polo aplicará al ser humano la distinción real que Tomás de Aquino descubrió entre el acto de ser y esencia. Dicha distinción, como veremos, supondrá importantes aportaciones para la antropología, y especialmente para el tema que nos compete, esto es, para la educación como ayudar a crecer. A partir de esta dualidad podremos hablar de crecimiento irrestricto en el ser humano. Este crecimiento se llevará a cabo tanto a nivel de la esencia como a nivel del acto de ser. El crecimiento de la esencia, del cual nos ocuparemos en mayor medida en la presente investigación se llamará esencialización, mientras que el crecimiento del acto de ser personal se conocerá con el nombre de optimización, aunque no nos centraremos en él en este trabajo.
