El deseo de difundir las bondades de clima y suelos del Edén Patate paraíso Ecuador me motivo a escribir de algo que es nuestro, el chirimoyo o Perla de los Andes. De origen en el área limítrofe entre Ecuador (Loja) y Perú a 1550 – 2200 m.s.n.m. dispone de grandes superficies ideales para el cultivo del fruto de innegables cualidades. Países con visión como España, Israel, Chile y otras, han organizado sus huertos con más técnica. EEUU con su departamento de Fruticultura obtuvo variedades para clima frio a templado como Bays y Booth. Requiere 600 – 1400 m.m. de precipitación, hoy se cultiva en países con clima subtropical con suelos de p.H. 5.5 – 8 y contenido de materia orgánica de 1.7 – 2.7% Prefiere textura mediana franca y temperaturas: Mín.14, Opt. 16 y Max. 25oC. Se propaga sexualmente por semilla y asexualmente por injerto logrando plantas de calidad y producción rápida. Se planta de 6x6 a 8x8 m. Para hacer huertos se debe seleccionar variedades de corteza media a gruesa para mayor conservación del fruto de delicioso aroma y sabor. Se poda de 1 – 3 años obteniendo plantas formadas y ayudando con buena nutrición y sistemas de plantación y riegos ideales.
