Description
Polycomb-Gruppe (PcG)-Proteine sind gut konservierte Chromatinfaktoren, die die Transkription ihrer Zielgene unterdrücken. Sie binden an spezifischen Stellen an das Genom und wirken auf das Chromatin durch die Regulierung sowohl posttranslationaler Histonmodifikationen als auch der Chromatinstruktur höherer Ordnung. Eine abnormale Expression mehrerer PcG-Gene ist mit verschiedenen Arten von Krebserkrankungen beim Menschen in Verbindung gebracht worden. PcGs gelten als neuartige prognostische Marker, sowohl im Hinblick auf die Verbesserung der Diagnose als auch auf die Vorhersage des Ansprechens des Patienten auf die Behandlung. Die pharmakologische gezielte Beeinflussung von PcG-Proteinen entwickelt sich zu einer attraktiven Strategie. Darüber hinaus können einige Nährstoffe die Expression von PcG-Proteinen in physiologischen und pathologischen Prozessen modifizieren.
