Une nouvelle méthode utilisée pour identifier la quantité de courant harmonique et de courant réactif en temps réel a été introduite dans cette recherche, afin d'améliorer la qualité de l'énergie électrique en utilisant des filtres actifs de puissance. Cette méthode proposée a donné des résultants très acceptables en la comparant à d'autres méthodes connues dans ce domaine. Nous avons étudié l'écoulement des puissances électrique dans l'UPQC dont le but d'approfondir nos connaissances sur son action de compensation des perturbations en temps réel par exemple les creux de tension, les courants harmoniques et/ou un courant réactif consommés par une charge non linéaire. Dans ce travail, nous avons présenté une étude comparative entre deux topologies de l'UPQC dans un réseau électrique à quatre fils et aussi comment connecter le fil neutre. Nous avons présenté deux types de régulateurs pour le maintien constant de la tension du bus continu. La première méthode est basée sur un régulateur PI et la deuxième utilise un régulateur flou. Finalement, nous avons utilisé une technique de l'intelligence artificielle, appelée "Système de Colonies des Fourmis".
