Les scénarios avancés, développés depuis moins d'une quinzaine d'années, insufflent un nouvel élan au tokamak en direction d'un futur réacteur à fusion thermonucléaire contrôlée. Le Joint European Torus (JET) installé au Royaume-Uni est actuellement le dispositif expérimental le plus performant au monde en terme de puissance fusion. Il a permis d'acquérir une riche expertise sur les régimes à confinement amélioré. Cet ouvrage présente les derniers concepts théoriques et expérimentaux qui ont été élaborés afin de rendre un futur réacteur à fusion viable. Il introduit les scénarios avancés - fleuron de la recherche sur les tokamaks - ainsi que des méthodes originales pour les caractériser et les maîtriser. Enfin, de nombreuses expériences réalisées sur JET sont analysées, dont les premières démonstrations de contrôle en temps réel du transport et du profil du courant, donnant le champ libre à des systèmes d'asservissement sophistiqués sur les plasmas de fusion.
