A mi-chemin entre l’autobiographie et la fiction, la pratique de l’autofiction inaugure une stratégie d’écriture inédite que ce livre se propose d’aborder chez des écrivains qui on en commun d’être juifs. Serge Doubrovsky, Marcel Benabou, Régine Robin ou encore Patrick Modiano illustrent chacun à leur manière la corrélation possible entre la problématique de l’autofiction et celle de la judéité dans l’écriture. Toujours décentré, l’écrivain juif incarnerait une figure emblématique de l’écrivain lui-même. Or ces textes ont une valeur exemplaire pour un problème plus général, celui de cette stratégie d'écriture singulière qu'est l'autofiction. Le croisement de ces deux problèmes historiquement marqués conduit ainsi à mettre au jour le lien entre la pratique de l’autofiction et l’expérience du génocide juif, déterminante dans ces oeuvres au demeurant très éloignées les unes des autres.
