Le Treatise on Money (1930) demeure un ouvrage mystérieux dans l'?uvre de John Maynard Keynes. Le présent ouvrage a pour ambition de mettre en lumière l'intérêt et la cohérence de l'ouvrage pour l'analyse de l'instabilité des économies monétaires dans la tradition institutionnaliste de l'analyse économique. Cette problématique de l'instabilité permet de comprendre pourquoi Keynes pensait qu'il était nécessaire d'écrire un nouveau traité sur les fondements et les propriétés des économies monétaires. Il met ainsi en lumière l'existence d'un e?et indirect d'éviction de la circulation industrielle par la circulation financière. Cette analyse des causes et des mécanismes de l'instabilité à travers la construction originale d'un modèle macroéconomique et dynamique débouche sur une interprétation originale de la genèse du krach boursier de 1929 et de l'entrée des économies occidentales dans la dépression.
