Legendele Olimpului. Volumul al II-lea: Eroii In cantecele vechi se povesteste ca ar fi vietuit odinioara, in preavestitul oras Argos, un rege care se numea Acrisiu. Si regele avea o fiica de-o frumusete uimitoare. Copila se chema Danae. Poetii o slaveau in versuri si regii ii trimiteau daruri. Numarul petitorilor era atat de mare, incat palatul lui Acrisiu nu dovedea sa-i mai cuprinda. Si regii, care mai de care erau mai falnici, mai puternici. De ar fi fost unul ales, se suparau, desigur, ceilalti. S-ar fi iscat poate razboaie. De-aceea regele Acrisiu statea mereu in cumpana si-i amana pe fiecare cu vorbele-i mestesugite, sa treaca timpul, sa se mai gandeasca. Mai avea regele si-o suparare. Se faceau grane prea putine, desi pamantul era bun. Ploua prea rar, si raul ce strabatea intreg tinutul seca mereu in timpul verii. Poporul nu avea bucate. Era nevoie de-un flacau sa tina fraiele puternic. Supusii deseori carteau, pentru ca-n casa lui Acrisiu erau bucate din belsug, iar pruncii lor piereau de foame. Si regele era batran. N-avea pe nimeni ajutor. Copila lui era prea slaba, si- apoi urma sa se marite, sa plece din tinutul Argos. Ii trebuia deci regelui brat de barbat pe langa casa. Vroia sa aiba un fecior.
