Wehrpflichten und Heerfolge im Spätmittelalter: Niederadel, Söldner, Stadt- und Landbewohner in den Kriegsordnungen des 15. Jahrhunderts

In modern reception, medieval warfare is often reduced to large battles or sieges in which two enemy parties face each other and brutally wrestle for victory with considerable troop contingents. The complex structures necessary for the application of military contingents within the feudal warfare in the late Middle Ages as well as the composition of larger army associations together with their relocation and supply remain unconsidered. In addition to the nobility, military commandments, consisting of the city and rural inhabitants, were an elementary part of warfare in the late Middle Ages. Accordingly, these conscripts had to have armament and armament, be regularly patterned and at least fundamentally possess military discipline and be practiced in handling weapons. The present volume deals with the army in the German-speaking world during the 15th century. The composition, mobilisation and organisation of military associations are as well as the conscription for the urban and rural population as well as their tactical operational capacity within armed conflicts. The armament, equipment and war material of the military departments are also analyzed and visualised, resulting in a particularly vivid picture of late medieval military history.
