Collected by the Saxon electors over centuries, it is historically excellently documented. For the first time, the total of 348 works are now presented in a three-volume scientific catalogue. Volume 1 gives an overview of the history of the collection and is devoted to central aspects of the research underlying the catalogue. The focus here is on the unique inventory of vessels with conchylia as well as on the question of the use function of pretious drinking harnesses and the technological features of goldsmith mounts. An extensive appendix contains short biographies of the masters represented in the catalogue. People and brand registers facilitate the handling of the catalog. Volume 2 and 3 form the actual, opulently illustrated catalogue part with a total of 254 entries in typological order comprising several works. Volume 2 is dedicated to drinking vessels. Unique is the inventory of trophies and figurative drinkware, often with naturals, complemented by pumps, cups, drinking bowls and vending machines. Volume 3 contains the inventory groups bottles, gift and cooling vessels, credences, cans, lid containers and bowls, statuettes and reliefs as well as finally table clocks and magnificent mirrors. The texts historically classify the works, inform about comparative pieces, iconography, templates, provenance as well as use, material and restorative aspects. In addition, you can find transcripts of all inventory entries and relevant other sources as well as meaningful digital photographs of the silver brands.
