Das Buch beschäftigt sich mit dem speziellen Fall der Entstehungsgeschichte einer Oper: der Zusammenarbeit von Richard Strauss und Stefan Zweig bei der Oper „Die schweigsame Frau". Es wird der Prozess vom Zustandekommen der Kooperation bis hin zu ihrem durch äußere Faktoren erzwungenen Ende nachvollzogen. Es ist ein Glücksfall, dass diese beiden Künstler gemeinsam dieses Werk gestaltet haben. Umso bedauerlicher ist, wie sehr die politischen Verhältnisse des NS-Regimes sowohl die Aufführungen als auch - trotz Strauss' Bemühungen um Stefan Zweig - ihre weitere Zusammenarbeit beeinflusst und verboten haben. Das Buch liefert eine detaillierte Darstellung der heiklen Zeit der Zusammenarbeit von Strauss und Zweig in den frühen 30er Jahren. Goebbels Freundschaft mit Strauss, Strauss' Verwicklung in den Nationalsozialismus, seine Lösung wie auch Thomas Manns Kritik an Zweigs Pazifismus werden vorgestellt. Ein Panorama des Versuchs zweier großer Gestalten des gebildeten Bürgertums angesichts und trotz des kulturellen Niedergangs im Faschismus der Kultur ihren Ort zu bewahren. About the Author Corinna Gunde wurde 1971 in Osnabruck geboren. Ihr Studium der Germanistik, Musikpadagogik und Musikwissenschaft schloss die Autorin mit dem Staatsexamen ab. Sie ist als Lehrerin fur die Facher Musik und Deutsch an einem Gymnasium in Nordrhein-Westfalen tatig."
