Ce livre est une rétrospective de l'oeuvre photographique impressionnante de Sarah Caron, consacrée aux femmes et aux hommes du Pakistan. La photographe française, récompensée par de nombreux prix, a passé beaucoup de temps au Pakistan au cours de la dernière décennie pour faire le portrait du pays sous toutes ses facettes : des régions dangereuses où règnent les chefs tribaux aux podiums de la haute couture à Karachi, des mégalopoles vibrantes et bouillonnantes aux contreforts désertiques de l'Hindu Kush, sur lesquels serpentent des routes où de lourds camions ornés de guirlandes multicolores tracent leurs sillons. Elle a rendu visite à des ethnies oubliées qui semblent vivre hors du temps, comme les derniers Kalasha de Chitral, en qui on voit parfois à tort les descendants d'Alexandre le Grand, ou les Mohana, qui vivent près du lac Manchar dans la vallée de l'Indus, où ils conservent leurs traditions.
