Description

The main aim of this study was to examine the personality profiles and personality disorders in alcohol dependent patients and to find out the incidence of psychosis in them. In the current study it was found that Lower education and socioeconomic status also plays a major role in alcoholism. Clinical variables like age at initiation, age at dependence and duration of dependence influence the course and out come of alcohol dependence in terms of severity. Personality disorders are prominently seen in alcohol dependent individuals as seen in the present study. The predominant personality disorders were borderline, avoidant, histrionic, dependent, and anankastic. The cluster B and cluster C personality disorders were predominant and cluster A personality disorders were present in a small percentage. Alcohol induced psychosis was present in a significant proportion of patients and seen more in case of severely dependent individuals as compared to moderately dependent individuals.
