En este documento se plantean básicamente tres objetivos: Caracterización del sector de la minería en el ámbito de la mediana empresa; presentar los fundamentos que pueden servir para evaluar inicialmente el desarrollo de una actividad minera desde una perspectiva socioeconómica financiera; y aportar una metodología para la evaluación económico – financiera de proyectos mineros. Este documento presenta como aportación propia la aplicación del modelo de estructura de proyecto MPDM que amplia la capacidad de los analistas mineros para investigar la política de operaciones en un ejercicio de evaluación. En este modelo, un proyecto minero es modelizado como un portfolio de activos reales en el cual las zonas del depósito de mineral, delimitados en función de las calidades, localización y las dimensiones, asumen el papel de componentes del portfolio.
