Una perspectiva inédita desde la Cuba colonial, ofrece a los lectores un contenido desconocido por la historiografía y el pueblo cubano actuales. En el primer capítulo, se muestra la dinámica socio-económica y político-ideológica de la ciudad de Santa Clara, entre los años 1878 - 1891, en los cuales este personaje desenvolvió su vida pública, y se da a conocer su singular y destacada participación en la trama de los hechos sociales y políticos de su tiempo, tanto en Cuba como en el exilio. En el segundo capítulo, se analizan sus propuestas político-ideológicas y análisis teórico-metodológicos respecto a temas tales como: la esclavitud, la autonomía, la emigración, la anexión de Cuba a los Estados Unidos, la necesidad de la participación política de la clase obrera cubana en aquellas circunstancias, el posible nefasto destino de la Humanidad a causa de la concentración de capitales como ley suprema del capitalismo, etcétera. Llama la atención su expresa filiación y la aplicación en sus análisis de algunas tesis marxianas a la altura de 1887, en esa fecha un caso insólito en Cuba y excepcional en América.
