Rural Non-Farm Sector (RNFS) which has the potential for generation of sizable number of employment opportunities in the rural areas, assumes greater importance. The cooperative movement in India was organized as a measure against rural poverty, aggravated by chronic indebtedness of the farmers and practice of usury at its worst by the money lenders. Loans from cooperative societies were also not enough to enable farmers to improve upon their land and augment their incomes. It was felt difficult to overcome all the problems, so the long term loan is important. In this book, author deals with an Overview of Rural Non- Farm Sector and Institutional Credits, Business Profile of Sample PCARDBs, Business Policies and Performance of PCARDBs with special reference to RNFS loans, analyses the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents and identifies the role of PCARDBs in the promotion of RNFS in rural areas and conclude with suggestions to increase the performance.
