Este trabajo analiza la evolución de la relación de las temperaturas máximas y mínimas con la mortalidad por causas orgánicas entre 1975 y 2003 en Castilla-La Mancha, España. Se dividen los datos diarios en tres periodos: 1975-1984, 1985-1994 y 1995-2003. Se analiza la evolución de la temperatura de mínima mortalidad y de los efectos retardados del calor y del frío sobre la mortalidad mediante metodología Box-Jenkins con funciones de correlación cruzadas. Se calculan los umbrales provinciales de disparo de la mortalidad aplicando modelos ARIMA en los intervalos de años indicados y en otros dos periodos de tiempo: 1975-1989 y 1990-2003. Se observa un descenso de las temperaturas de mínima mortalidad y una evolución creciente de la asociación temperatura - mortalidad en verano. Los efectos del calor son más intensos e inmediatos que los del frío. Se aprecia un descenso de las temperaturas de disparo de la mortalidad por calor en todas las provincias. Por tanto, se ha producido en Castilla- La Mancha una evolución creciente de los efectos del calor sobre la mortalidad de 1975 a 2003 pese a la mejora de indicadores socio-económicos.
