En este libro se investigan dos problemas con interacción entre partículas pesadas y fluidos, especialmente flujos vorticales con el objetivo de mejorar la comprensión del régimen turbulento. Primero se ha analizado el tiempo que tardan en escapar de un vórtice 3D pequeñas partículas pesadas ampliando los resultados preexistentes para el caso de un vórtice 2D y determinando su dependencia respecto a los parámetros del problema. El resultado más importante ha sido el desarrollo de una fórmula teórica que proporciona el Tiempo de Escape comprobando su validez numéricamente. Después se ha analizado la sedimentación de partículas en una disposición bidimensional de vórtices repetidos periódicamente en dos situaciones: primero con todos los vórtices girando en el mismo sentido y después con sentidos de giro alternados. En ambos casos se ha obtenido que las partículas se acumulan en zonas preferentes de sedimentación en función de su inercia, posibilitando su separación del fluido y su clasificación y que su velocidad media de sedimentación se incrementa respecto al caso de fluido en reposo. También se han observado unos resultados muy similares a los ya conocidos para flujos turbulentos.
